A GOAL BY Shane Duffy helped Blackburn Rovers overcome Mansfield Town in the English League Cup tonight.
The Derry native scored once while former Celtic striker Anthony Stokes grabbed a braced in the 3-1 win over the League Two side.
[adrotate group=”38″]The score was 1-1 when Republic of Ireland centre-back Duffy headed home a cross from Craig Conway before Stokes’ second gave new manager Owen Coyle his first win as Rovers manager.
With his mother Frances a native of Glaserchoo in Gortahork, and his late father Owen from Gweedore, Paisley-born Coyle qualified to play for Ireland during his own playing days and was part of the 1994 World Cup squad.
