Seven young Donegal boxers will be in action this week at the National Boy 1, 2 and 3 Championships at The National Stadium in Dublin.
The Championships get underway this morning and Donegal’s seven Ulster champions will all be in action in the coming days.
Dunfanaghy ABC have three punchers in the capital.
Bernie McDonagh (pictured), an Irish champion last year, will be in a Boy 2 40kgs quarter-final against Cale Brennan from Athy. McDonagh last weekend collected the Ulster title by way of a walkover win at the Rochesters Club in Derry.
[adrotate group=”46″]Odhrán McGinley, who defeated Two Castles’ Danny McHugh in his Ulster final, will meet Ballagh’s Ryan Cullen in one of the Boy 3 52kgs quarter-finals.
Patrick Scott, who was given a walkover win at the Ulsters, is up against Sean Walsh from Trojan BC in a Boy 3 68kgs quarter-final.
Ben Clarke from Carndonagh is the first of the Donegal boxers to take to the canvas.
Clarke, younger brother of Irish champions Labhaoise and Jessica Clarke, overcame Mourne’s Brandon McGarrigle in his Ulster final and will take on D Joyce from Athy in a Boy 1 46kgs quarter-final.
[adrotate group=”91″]Carn’s Dominic O’Donnell is through to the Boy 2 54kgs final. He will meet the winner of the Warren Murphy (Spartan) V Thomas C Ward (Dromhair) semi.
Letterkenny ABC’s Dylan Browne-McMonagle will be in Boy 3 35kgs action on Friday against a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent and Dungloe’s Oisin Wallace will square up to Michael Faulkner in a Boy 3 56kgs semi-final on Friday.
The tournament will be completed over 267 bouts with finals taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Donegal girls Clodagh McGonagle (Carndonagh), Shania McCloskey (Carndonagh), Chloe McDaid (Illies) and Ciara Craig (Dunfanaghy) will go to the Girls’ Championships, which are underway on May 5/6.
