DOUBLE ALL-STAR Kevin Cassidy helped to spur Gaoth Dobhair reserves to the semi-finals of the RTÉ Raidío na Gaeltachta Senior Reserve Championship.
Cassidy, an All-Star winner in 2002 and 2011, scored three points as Gaoth Dobhair overcame St Michael’s 2-10 to 1-11.
Cassidy arched over a couple of magnificent points in the first-half with James Sweeney’s goal the big score.
St Michael’s hit back, though, and Keelan McGee fired to the net to ignite hope, only for Gaoth Dobhair to strike late for a dramatic winner.
Cassidy was the provider and Manny Gallagher applied the finish to sink St Michael’s and propel Gaoth Dobhair to the final four.
Cassidy was with the McBride’s club in Chicago during the summer and, as he wasn’t named in the Gaoth Dobhair first fifteen, was permitted to return to the club colours in Letterkenny this afternoon.
Glenswilly held on to overcome derby foes St Eunan’s at Sean MacCumhaill Park.
Aidy Glackin’s team led 0-6 to 0-2 at the break and they were well in command when Dermot McGinley found the net from a penalty five minutes into the second half.
St Eunan’s mounted a comeback and Jordan O’Dowd’s goal gave them real hope, but Glenswilly won 1-7 to 1-5.
Donnacha Gallagher hit two points for Eunan’s with Sean Hume, Connall O’Boyle and Paddy Rafferty also on target, but Glenswilly steered for home with Caoimhin Marley (3), Shane Carberry, Charlie Bonner and Kieran Gibbons scoring.
Ardara had little trouble seeing off Naomh Muire on Saturday evening in Ballybofey.
First-half goals by Jack Brennan and Killian Boyle had Ardara 2-3 to 0-3 ahead at half-time.
Naomh Muire failed to score in the second half and Ardara kicked on for a 2-14 to 0-3 triumph.
Kilcar and Four Masters must do it all again after a 1-5 to 0-8 draw at Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park in Killybegs on Saturday.
David McShane’s first-half goal had Kilcar 1-4 to 0-3 in front at the break, but Kilcar would add just one further score – that from Eoin O’Donnell – in the second half.
They’d been aided with McShane, O’Donnell, Barry McBrearty and Gerard McBrearty hitting points.
Benny Cassidy’s five points helped keep Four Masters in touch, while Conor Rooney gave a fine performance as the Donegal town team rescued a replay.
