MARK ENGLISH FINISHED in second place in a season’s best of 1:46.99 over 800m at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow for the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix.
The Letterkenny native enjoyed a very good last 200 metres in Scotland to post a fine time, beaten only by Poland’s Adam Kszczot – the man who pipped English to gold at last year’s European Indoors in Prague, Czech Republic, and went onto take second place at the World Championships.
A measure of the standard on show this afternoon in Glasgow was the fact that Timothy Kitum – the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist – was fourth and Michael Rimmer, a 2010 European silver medal winner, was fifth.
Kszczot, English and third placed Erik Sowinski from the United States all ran their best times of 2016.
English can be content with his season to date. After finishing second in a time of 1:47:28 to Qatar’s Musaeb Balla at the PSD Bank Meeting in Düsseldorf, Germany, English won a 500m event in Stockholm on Wednesday evening.
