Eight points by Seamus ‘Nanny’ Friel drove Gaeil Fhánada into the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Junior Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta competition in Downings.
Gaeil Fhánada 0-22 Clann na nGael 2-6
After a win over St Naul’s last night, Aidan McAteer’s men were in action against Meath’s Clann na nGael this afternoon.
Despite being pushed to the pin of their collar for a time when Clann na nGael hit two goals in a nine-minute spell at the start of the second half, Gaeil Fhánada pulled away to win with a bit to spare.
Gaeil Fhánada had beaten hosts Downings in last month’s Donegal Junior final at the county Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta finals – and hopes are high that the two old foes could meet in Monday’s final.
Last night, Seamus ‘Nanny’ Friel and Oisin McFadden hit five points apiece and Niall Carr netted a goal in a 1-15 to 2-4 win over St Naul’s.
Today, Friel hit four first-half scores as Gaeil Fhánada led 0-6 to 0-5 at the short whistle.
Gaeil Fhánada had ten different players on the mark in what turned out to be a comfortable win.
Gaeil Fhánada scorers: Seamus ‘Nanny’ Friel 0-8, Michael Sweeney 0-5, Mark McAteer, Brian McGettigan 0-2 each, Ephrim McFadden, Fergus Friel, Conor McGonigle, Oisin Shiels, Odhrán Shiels, Mark Friel 0-1 each.
