ROSAPENNA GOLF CLUB’S Ruaidhri McGee will tee off at 2pm tomorrow at the 10th hole in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open tomorrow.
The 25-year-old, who is a professional since 2010, will play alongside Waterford’s Kevin Phelan and Craig Lee from Scotland for the first two days at the K Club in County Kildare. ‘
[adrotate group=”66″]Both McGee and Phelan accepted invites to take part this week and will line up in a field alongside the likes of Masters champion Danny Willett and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy.
“It’s huge,” McGee told the European Tour’s official website. “It’s such a big tournament the Irish Open. Obviously being my home tournament it’s great to get to play in it. It could make a huge difference to the season. You have a good week there and it could change everything.”
[adrotate group=”67″]Born in Derry but living between Belfast Carrigart and the club professional at Rosapenna, McGee picked up €7,000 for his biggest cheque of the season to date last weekend having come tied seventh at The Lyoness Open in Austria. He was -14 for the 54 holes.
On May Bank Holiday weekend he was tied seventh at the Challenge de Madrid, taking home €3,400.
Both those events were on the Challenge Tour and in McGee has two outings in the European Challenge Tour this year.
He pulled out of the Tshwane Open, played at the Pretoria Country Club, Waterkloof, Pretoria, South Africa in February. And before that, McGee shot +4 for two rounds at the Joburg Open in January.
