RORY KAVANAGH’S autobiography ‘Winning’ will be on sale from October.
The Letterkenny native last night helped Donegal Boston win the North-East Men’s Senior Football Championship with an one-point win over Wolfetones after extra-time in Canton.
Kavanagh will be returning home later this week in preparation for St Eunan’s RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta SFC quarter-final against Glenswilly.
The 33-year-old retired from inter-county football in January having first represented Donegal in the championship in 2002, with the highlight being the 2012 All-Ireland win under the management of Jim McGuinness.
“Rory Kavanagh was at the heart of the Donegal team that changed Gaelic football forever as they marched to the 2012 All-Ireland title,” reads the book’s synopsis.
“In Winning Kavanagh tells exactly how Donegal, under Jim McGuinness’ management, transformed from being the ‘party boys’ in the game, to a team with an iron discipline and a desire to win that was simply overpowering.
“Winning is a spell binding and intimate account of the life of a Donegal footballer under McGuinness’ rule. It will intrigue and amaze all GAA fans. And it will serve as a masterful guide for all footballers and hurlers in understanding the essential difference between losing and winning.
“Rory Kavanagh, who has played midfield on the Donegal team that won three Ulster titles – and won and lost All-Ireland finals in a breakneck four years – has written the most important and revealing book in the modern history of the game.”
Ghost-written by Liam Hayes, an All-Ireland winner with Meath in 1987 and 1988, with Alan Foley of Donegal Sport Hub as researcher, Kavanagh’s autobiography will be printed by Hero Books. It will be released on Wednesday, October 7, costing €17.99.
