Ronan Curtis starred last night as the Republic of Ireland U21s secured an impressive 3-1 friendly win over Iceland ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA U21 European qualifier against Azerbaijan.
The Hale brothers, Rory and Ronan, scored either side of Ryan Manning’s first-half strike to make it a night to remember for the Derry City footballers.
It was also a night to remember for Curtis as the St Johnston man played a starring role to cap a fine 90 minutes for Candystripes.
Curtis teed up Rory Hale for the opener after only 14 seconds.
Five minutes from the break, Ryan Manning doubled Ireland’s lead. The QPR man won the ball back and played a neat one-two with Curtis to fire home over the keeper.
Iceland pulled a goal back in the 67th minute through Stefan Ljubicic who produced a curling finish off-the-post as Ireland made a number of changes during the second-half.
Ronan Hale added a late third for Ireland.
