RONAN Curtis was again at the controls as Portsmouth created a new club record today.
Sean Raggett and Ryan Williams netted as Portsmouth overcame Tranmere Rovers. The win, which keeps Pompey in the League One play-off positions, was their ninth consecutive win.
It is the first time since entering the Football League 100 years ago that Portsmouth have won nine-in-a-row.
Curtis – as he did last week in the 2-0 win over Sunderland – provided both the assists today at Prenton Park.
A 13th minute free-kick from the St Johnston man was met by Raggett and he netted from close range.
Curtis signed a new long-term deal at Portsmouth last weekend and the Republic of Ireland international – who has scored himself 13 times this season – set up a second for Williams six minutes into the second half.
Curtis cut-back for Williams, whose low finish doubled the lead and set Portsmouth up for a record win.
Seamus Coleman played the full 90 minutes as Everton moved seventh in the Premier League with a 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere in League One, Stephen McLaughlin bagged a goal for Southend United, but the Inishowen man was unable to prevent the relegation-threatened Shrimpers from falling to a 2-1 defeat at Blackpool.
McLaughlin got on the scoresheet on 72 minutes, but Armand Gnanduillet’s double ensured it was Blackpool’s day.
In League Two, there was no joy for Conrad Logan, as the Ramelton man was in goal for Forest Green Rovers’ 2-1 home loss to Walsall, while Dale Gorman was an unused substitute as Newport County lost 1-0 to Cambridge United.
