ROMA MCLAUGHLIN has been included in the Republic of Ireland senior squad for next Tuesday’s UEFA 2017 European Championship qualifier against Portugal in Dublin.
The Greencastle woman, who plays in the Women’s National League with Peamount and was the League’s Young Player of the Year last season, is included in the senior squad for a competitive game for the first time.
McLaughlin impressed Sue Ronan, the Irish manager, during a recent camp in Wales that included two games against Wales, a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 win.
Midfielder McLaughlin and her Peamount team-mate Tiegan Ruddy are the new faces in the Irish squad for next week’s game in Tallaght.
Ronan said: “I’d like to congratulate Tiegan Ruddy and Roma McLaughlin on their call-ups to the national squad for a competitive international for the first time after their impressive performances in Wales.”
