DONEGAL woman Roma McLaughlin has been named on the prestigious 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The news was announced by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club.
Greencastle woman McLaughlin is a student the Central Connecticut State University.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
This year’s award winners will be announced May 27 at the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Press Conference and Banquet taking place at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, MO.
McLaughlin is now among the candidates.
“It’s great to see Roma recognised as one of the best players in the country,” said CCSU head coach Mick D’Arcy. “She works incredibly hard in every practice and is continually making herself a better player.”
As a sophomore, McLaughlin led the Blue Devils with 23 points and 10 goals. She finished second in the NEC in points, goals, and game-winning goals.
She scored four goals against non-conference opponents including the game-winner against Iona and the lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Siena. In conference play, McLaughlin scored four goals in three matches scoring twice against Wagner and Merrimack.
McLaughlin led Central to its second straight NEC Title with a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in November when she scored the game-winning goal and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
