WITH no less than FOUR Ulster titles this year at senior and underage level, Donegal Ladies Gaelic Football continues to grow.
So the Donegal LGFA was delighted at the huge support received for its 4th annual golf classic at the Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club on Friday, with money raised going to fund the development of Donegal’s fastest growing sport.
Organiser Liam Skelly, the Donegal LGFA vice-chair, pulled together an incredible prize list worth €2,000 as well as signed apparel from 3-time major winner Padraig Harrington who once again supported this fundraising golf event.
The classic golf tournament had to be postponed in May due to severe weather on the day, but there was no such problems at the Twin Towns venue on Friday with mild balmy conditions and some great golf to match.
With 22 teams taking part in the event and with 11 prizes this meant half the field went home with something with Marks & Spencer vouchers and vouchers for the Letterkenny Driving Range amongst the prizes.
James McAllister, Patsy O’Donnell, Tony Griffin and Gerard Conaty won the tournament with 99pts, four ahead of their nearest rivals.
“The course was in excellent condition a real credit to the green staff,” said Liam.
“We would like to thank Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club for the use of their excellent facilities and for their continued support.
“Their enormous help is really critical to our sport and the whole team at the club were superb, from Allister running the timesheet to Mary and the restaurant staff who provided food on the day. And vice-Captain Sean Carlin was our guest at the presentation.”
