ROMA MCLAUGHLIN’S SUPERB debut season in the Continental Tyres Women’s National League has got even better following the announcement of the nominees for the annual awards.
The nominees for the League’s awards, to be presented next Wednesday, April 18, were confirmed this morning by the Football Association of Ireland.
Greencastle woman McLaughlin, who played in the League for the first time this season with Peamount United, has been included in the 2015/16 Team of the Season and is nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.
McLaughlin, who moved to Peamount from her native Greencastle United last summer, is nominated alongside Evelyn Daly of Cork City and Keeva Keenan of Shelbourne for the Young Player of the Year accolade.
McLaughlin’s magnificent displays have also been rewarded by inclusion on the Team of the Season.
She was named as the Continental Tyres Women’s National League Player of the Month award for January/February.
She’d scored the winner against Castlebar Celtic and a late equaliser against Shelbourne in those months, when her performances really caught the eye.
Last month, she scored a goal for the Republic of Ireland Ireland in the Uefa Women’s Under 19 Championship Elite Round in a 3-0 win over Azerbaijan.
The 2015/16 Continental Tyres Women’s National League Awards will take place in the Marker Hotel on Wednesday, May 18. There will also be a Services to Women’s Football Award presented and an presentation of Golden Boot award.
