We have six nominees for this week’s Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s.
Each weekly award winner will receive a kitbag, a jersey and a half-zip, supplied by O’Reilly’s.
The award winner will be chosen via a public vote from a shortlist selected by our panel.
O’Reilly’s Sportswear was founded in 2017 by well-known Twin Towns sporting brothers Steven and Martin O’Reilly.
Our poll closes at noon on Thursday.
James Boyle (Irish Amputee Football Team)
Dungloe man James Boyle netted a hat-trick for the Irish Amputee Football Team at the World Cp in Mexico at the weekend. Boyle was in magnificent form for Ireland and also scored twice against Columba, twice against Uruguay and once against Mexico.
Calvin Bradley (Red Hughs)
Calvin Bradley was on fire for the second weekend in a row and helped Red Hughs reach the Ulster Club JFC final. Bradley scored 1-5 as Red Hughs hit form in the second half to defeat Emyvale in their semi-final.
Nakita Burke (Letterkenny AC)
The race for the Donegal Senior Cross-Country title could hardly have been closer in Stranorlar on Sunday. Finn Valley’s Teresa Doherty led for almost all of the race but with around ten metres to go, Nakita Burke, who’d tracked Doherty for the duration, pipped her. It was Burke’s first individual medal at the Deonagl Cross-Country Championships – and what a way to get it.
Michael Carroll (Gaoth Dobhair)
On Sunday, Gaoth Dobhair defeated Erin’s Own, Carigan in the Ulster Club SFC. A ten-point lead was whittled down to two at one stage and Gaoth Dobhair briefly wobbled. But a goal late in the day by Michael Carroll steadied them. In the absence of Odhrán Mac Niallais, Carroll stepped up to take responsibility.
Daire McDaid (Donegal League)
The Donegal League have found the Inishowen League to be a monkey on their backs in the Oscar Traynor Trophy over recent years. But they buried a hoodoo on Saturday night in Ballyare with come-from-behind win. Daire McDaid of Kilmacrennan Celtic was central to the win with a Man of the Match display.
Mark Timlin (Finn Harps)
Mark Timlin had missed last Monday’s first leg of the promotion-relegation play-off against Limerick for Finn Harps. But the Buncrana man was restored to the XI for Friday’s second leg at the Markets Field. Timlin excelled for Harps, scoring the first goal in a 2-0 win and setting them on the way back to the Premier Division.
