Karen Guthrie (Glenfin)
Sunday’s Donegal senior ladies final was a tale penned by ace midfielder Karen Guthrie. Glenfin had heroic performers all over the field – but none stood as tall as Guthrie. In the absence of Yvonne Bonner, Glenfin’s totemic forward, Guthrie dragged her side to victory over Moville.
Guthrie scored 2-3 on the day and drove her team from the depths at times.
Paddy McCourt (Finn Harps)
Words hardly do justice to Paddy McCourt at this stage. Finn Harps hit Cabinteely for seven on Saturday night in the final First Division game of the season. McCourt, making his first start since July following an injury, gave yet another masterclass in his 51-minute appearance.
The former Celtic winger netted a trademark solo goal for Harps’ second goal in the 7-1 win. It was another performance for a wonderful collection.
Ciara McGarvey (Donegal Women’s League)
The U17 Continental Tyres Women’s National League has been a baptism of fire for the Donegal Women’s League in their first voyage into this grade. After some near misses and close calls, the Donegal side earned their first point on Saturday away to Athlone Town.
After falling behind to a deflected first-half goal, Donegal secured a share of the spoils when Ciara McGarvey cracked home a brilliant free-kick.
Conor O’Donnell (Carndonagh FC)
You have to wind the clock all the way back to the 2002/03 season for the last time Carndonagh FC graced a top-flight final in the Inishowen League. They will finally bridge that gap following a dramatic 3-2 extra time win over Buncrana Hearts on Sunday. in the Clubman Shirts League Cup semi-final.
Penalties loomed when, deep in the extra period, Conor O’Donnell unleashed a stunning strike for a historic win for the St Patrick’s Park outfit.
Edyta Piechowicz (Viking Fit)
At the European Single Lift Championships in Dublin at the weekend, Viking Fit competitor Edyta Piechowicz returned with two gold medals.
Piechowicz won the squat with a lift of 112.5kgs before scooping gold in the deadlift with a 165kgs lift – a PB.
