THE DONEGAL SPORTS STAR AWARDS is celebrating its 40th birthday this year and the organising committee is planning for a special night.
On January 29th, the great and the good, the past and the present of Donegal sport will assemble at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny for the latest installment of a function first held in 1976.
Delaney’s attendance was confirmed at the official launch on Monday night, when several past winners were in attendance.

Lifford athlete Sharon Foleys is one of only three people to have won the overall Donegal Sports Star Award more than once. The high jumper and pentathlete was the winner in 1989 and 1993.
The first overall award winner was another Lifford AC star. In 1976 and ’77, the first two years, there was no overall winner, but hurdler Liam Doherty – whose 110m and 400m Donegal records still stand today – was the winner of the award in 1978.
Joe Barr was a four-time winner of the cycling category who took the overall award in 1984, while Rory Kennedy is a three-time winner of the motorsport award and Anne McCafferty twice took the tennis award.
They spoke with Charlie Collins at Monday’s launch.
