FOR THIS WEEK’S podcast, we speak to a number of those in attendance at the launch for the Donegal Sports Star awards.
Charlie Collins was at Monday’s night’s launch in Letterkenny, looking ahead to the 40th staging, which takes place in late January.
Heptathlete Danea Herron was the first female winner of the overall award back in 1985, while Danny McDaid represented Ireland in the Olympic marathon in 1972 and 1976, as well as captaining the Irish team to silver medals at the 1979 World Cross-Country Championships in Limerick.
Jim Sheridan captained Finn Harps to the 1974 FAI Cup and Joe English (pictured above with Charlie Collins by Geraldine Diver) was there to represent his son Mark, who was last year’s overall winner having claimed a bronze medal at the 800m of the European Athletics Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.
As well as that, we hear from the event sponsors – Donegal County Council, with the Mayor of Donegal Ciaran Brogan and CEO Seamus Neely.
