THE competition last weekend at Buncrana Golf Club was the PD Plumbing Supplies (Buncrana & Derry) Open Singles Stableford.
There was a tremendous turnout from the members over the weekend. The weather was in sparkling form with blistering Mediterranean style sunshine and temperatures to go with.
On top of that the course was also in excellent condition for golf. Taming both the weather and the course was John P. McConnell (12).
JP played some blistering golf on Saturday morning to record his winning total of 42 points and make a much welcome return to the winners enclosure after a little bit of a hiatus.
JP started of steady on Saturday, playing consistent golf over his first 9 holes to return 18 points, but this is where JP produced the goods and the style, playing his back 9 holes in a magnificent 24 points to give him his winning total of 42 points and the 1st Prize of a Taylormade Golf Bag.
One point adrift were Paul McDaid (10) and David McMenamin (28) both tied on 41 points, but by virtue of a BOT and his superior back 9, Paul McDaid took the second prize and David had to settle for 3rd.
Oliver Doherty (3) also found himself back on form with a excellent level Par round of 66 to claim the gross prize.
The full results of the PD Plumbing Supplies Open Singles Stableford are as follows. 1st John P. McConnell (12) 42pts. 2nd Paul McDaid (10) 41 pts BOT. Gross Oliver Doherty (3) 66. 3rd David McMenamin (28) 41pts. Best Day Martin McCallion (18) 40pts (Saturday) and Back 9 Jonathon Doherty (10) 25pts.
