Seán Mac Cumhaills held its first ever fun day on Saturday and the theme of the day was focused on the importance of Community and on entry to the event all children received a goodie bag, a green and white headband and a sticker with the logo “Our Community Your Club”.
Proceedings kicked off at 12pm with a hurling and kick puc fada.
What followed during the course of the afternoon was a variety of games and competitions for all of the children to participate in. There was penalty shoot outs, races, welly throwing, Ball Catching and bale carrying competitions to name a few. The children had a chance to get some revenge on their coaches who in good sport all bravely agreed to take to the stocks for a game of “soak the coach”. There was a toddler area stacked with an array of ride-owns and machinery for the younger kids to enjoy.
There was a very busy arts and crafts tent which kept the kids busy with various quizzes and words searches to test their local knowledge skills. The highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of the Coastguard Helicopter in the main pitch which landed shortly before 3pm. The children all had a chance to look around the helicopter and have their photographs taken with the crew before it departed.
Massive thanks to the crew who took their time talking to all of the children and for answering their questions. What followed was a real treat for everyone in attendance. The world hand ball champion Avril McNamee gave children (and those adults brave enough) the opportunity to test their handball skills. One of our Donegal Ladies team, Katy Herron was brave enough to take Avril on and what followed were some very enjoyable games for all those present.
Thanks to both Katy and Avril for taking the time to attend our event and posing for photographs with all of the children. The fun then ended at 4pm after what was a very enjoyable afternoon. A huge thanks to all of the helpers who volunteered their time on the day with the running of the event, the Irish Coast Guard, the Civil Defence, Edel Flynn, An Garda Siochana and Aidan Thompson.
Thanks also to Jigsaw Donegal and B&S Credit Union who attended the event. A Huge thanks to all of our sponsors who provided us with food and beverages for the day. Thanks to all of the businesses who generously gave prizes for our raffle draw. Your generosity was overwhelming. Lastly and most importantly thanks to you, the Community for coming out in such numbers to support our day and making it the success that it was.
