ALMOST 600 children turned out on a gorgeous September morning to compete at the 19th annual Primary Schools Cross Country event at Finn Valley AC.
Some 596 participants, drawn from 35 schools all across Donegal, took part.

“It was a lovely day so we have to be very happy and pleased,” said Patsy McGonagle of Finn Valley, who was instrumental in the initial driving primary schools athletics in the early 1970s.
“It’s really about coming and trying it.
“It’s about giving the kids a taste of it. It’s a nice day out and the conditions at Finn Valley are excellent because you don’t want to throw them into a big mucky field.”
There were sections for small, medium and large schools in the various races.
