A 17-STRONG representation from Donegal will travel to Philadelphia this week for a major boxing tournament on Friday night.
Ten boxers and seven officials from Donegal clubs are part of a delegation representing Donegal, Tyrone, Derry and Fermanagh.
The McCole brothers, Matthew and Mark, as well as Oisin Wallace and Odhrán Mac Ruairà from Dungloe ABC have been selected.
Three boxers from Dunfanaghy ABC – Ciara Craig, Odhrán McGinley and Sean Kelly – are on the squad as are Raphoe ABC duo Orin McDermott and Dennis Lafferty as well as Convoy ABC’s Bryan McNamee.
[adrotate group=”38″]Eddie Harkin and Joe Harkin (Dunfanaghy), Dominic McCafferty (Convoy), Jim McCole (Dungloe) and Gerard Keaveney (Raphoe) will accompany the team.
Dunfanaghy’s Michael McDermott is the referee/judge while the Donegal Boxing Board President, Peter O’Donnell, is also traveling as a guest.
The squad travels out in the early hours of Wednesday while the tournament takes place on Friday night in the Clarion Hotel, Essington, Philadelphia.
Dan Mullarkey from the Must Box Gym in Philadelphia has been to the fore in the organising of the trip, while former Dunfanaghy boxer Brendan Ward, now living in Philadelphia, has also been instrumental in putting the matches together.
