THE 2020 Remembrance 10k will be held on the weekend of November 21/22 – but with a distinct and distanced difference.
This will be Finn Valley AC’s seventh staging of the Remembrance 10k, an event designed to marked loved ones no longer with us.
Hundreds have taken part in the annual event and people are being urged to register and take part from a distance this year.
Registration costs €10 and a number of pre-planned routes at Finn Valley, Aghyaran, Strabane and Castlederg are available.
Those beyond 5k distances can, once registered, do their own 10k route and submit names for inclusion on the special Wall of Remembrance which is in operation at Finn Valley AC.
“We are trying to keep events and activities going as close to normal as possible while remaining within the Covid-19 guidelines and respecting public health advice,” Finn Valley AC Chairman Patsy McGonagle said.
“The Remembrance 10k is held in November, a month associated with remembering the dead. We note and remember all those who were involved here in club activity in whatever manner over our near-50 years who are sadly no longer with us. They all remain such an integral part of our story.
“We invite people to take part this year again and, for those who are not within 5k of Finn Valley AC, to register and submit the names of their own loved ones who have sadly departed so they can be included on what is a very special Wall of Remembrance this year.
“We urge everyone to remain active in this difficult time. Rarely has physical activity been so important. It is possible to keep up the pace while of course adhering to the advice and measures that remain in place.”
Proceeds will be distributed between Cunamh and the schools athletics project.
