PAUL Hegarty has rejoined Derry City, the Ballindrait man having been confirmed as Peter Hutton’s news assistant manager.
Hegarty’s appointment follows the departure of Marty McCann from the Premier Division strugglers.
Derry have won just three Premier Division games and are joint second from bottom with Sligo Rovers and are without a win in their last 12 League outings.
This will be Hegarty’s third spell at the Brandywell as number 2 after previous terms as assistant to Stephen Kenny and Declan Devine (with whom he is pictured above).
In between times, he managed Finn Harps from December 2006 until he resigned for ‘personal reasons’ in May 2009.
In 2007, he led Harps to promotion from the First Division, but despite a big spending close season they were relegated in 2008.
Hegarty has previously managed at Institute and, as a player, made over 200 appearances for Derry, where he is a favourite among supporters.
