OUTGOING Donegal GAA Assistant Secretary, Ed Byrne, has hit out at some people who ‘ignored the guidelines’ after sport returned earlier this year.
Club Championship games were played behind closed doors following a heightening of Covid-19 related restrictions.

In his report to this week’s annual county convention, which was held remotely, Killybegs clubman Byrne highlighted some concerning incidents.
“It is not a nice place to stand at the gates refusing entry to GAA people knowing they have given a lifetime of service, but we had to,” Byrne said.
“I would like to thank all those who co-operated with us when they were turned away and were so understanding.
“I would have a different view of those who showed no respect to the wellbeing of the General Public, the CCC members and stewards at our gates, when advised of the guidelines which we all were expected to adhere to in order to flatten the curve and ensure our Competitions continued safely.
“Those who ignored the guidelines I would say have played a huge part in helping NPHET lock us down again and I hope it was worth it for them for the sake of 60 minutes that could have been viewed online.
“To borrow a phrase: ‘Some are equal but some are more equal than others’ – even during a pandemic.
“Each of us has personal responsibility at this time and thank you again to those who worked with the CCC to help ensure the safety of our communities.”
