THE DONEGAL Daily/Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s Sportswear, is back – and you can select our winners.
Each weekly award winner will receive a kitbag, a jacket and a bobble hat, supplied by O’Reilly’s.
The award winner will be chosen via a public vote from a shortlist selected by our panel.
O’Reilly’s Sportswear was founded in 2017 by well-known Twin Towns sporting brothers Steven and Martin O’Reilly.
The last few award winners from the previous running of the Sports Person of the Week poll will be presented with their prizes later this week.
This week’s poll closes at noon on Friday – cast your vote! Please note that our voting system allows only one vote per IP address.
John Campbell (Buncrana)
BUNCRANA prised away from St Mary’s, Convoy in Saturday’s Junior Championship semi-final as The Scarvey men won 1-10 to 0-9.
John Campbell landed 1-7 on a day when Convoy just couldn’t handle the power and precision of the big full-forward. Capbell’s goal came on 15 minutes and proved the game’s key score.
Ailish Doherty (Carndonagh Community School)
CARNDONAGH CS travelled to England last week and won the SAFIB Rod Houston Cup in Lilleshall. Carndonagh CS blitzed their opponents in style and their successful voyage ended with a 3-1 win over Welsh side Ysgol Glan Clwdy, Saint Asaph.
Carndonagh also beat Crompton House School 4-2 and Shenfield High School, Essek 4-0. Ailish Doherty was on fire with six goals, including two in the final game.
Mario Garcia (LYIT Donegal)
LYIT won again on Saturday as they defeated Fr Mathews at An Danlann on Saturday. LYIT claimed a 95-76 home win.
Spaniard Mario Garcia top-scored with 28 points – including a superb buzzer-beater that was captured on camera.
Conor McBrearty (Letterkenny Gaels)
LETTERKENNY Gaels reached their first ever Junior Championship final thanks to a 1-13 to 0-9 win over Na Rossa on Saturday.
Conor McBrearty bagged the crucial goal for the Gaels in the first half as he riffled home late in the first half. In all, McBrearty scored 1-7 as Gaels booked a ticket in this weekend’s final.
Denis O’Donnell (Dungloe ABC)
AFTER an eight-year absence, Denis O’Donnell returned to the boxing ring last week – and won the Ulster senior heavyweight final.
In Friday night’s final, O’Donnell overcame Illies Golden Gloves’ Michael McConigley at the Dockworkers Club. O’Donnell won the 2011 Irish intermediate final, but hung up the gloves. He returned in style as he overcame a split decision win to make a real mark.
