FOUR YEARS AFTER the Olympic 50k walk at the Olympic Games in London, Rob Heffernan today received his bronze medal at home in Cork.
Heffernan came fourth in the even back in 2012 but was upgraded to third place after Russian gold medalist Sergey Kirdyapkin was subsequently disqualified for doping offences.
[adrotate group=”81″]Patsy McGonagle, from Finn Valley Athletic Club in Stranorlar, managed the Irish Olympic team and made the journey to City Hall in Cork for the celebrations. It was the first time an Olympic medal was presented on Irish soil.
