GARVAN GRIEVE’S penalty rescued a draw for Glencar Celtic in the top-of-the-table clash with Orchard at Flagpole Park this afternoon.

Grieve drilled past Tommy McLaughlin in the 68th minute to secure a share of the spoils and ensure that Glencar, pictured above, stay on the coat tails of Orchard, who lead the way at the top of the League by a point.
Joe McCarron’s penalty, seven minutes earlier, put Orchard in front after Gio Peoples had cancelled out the opening goal from Glencar’s Paddy Collins.

Both sides had chances before then.
Orchard’s Michael Sweeney beat the offside trap after just five minutes, but Glencar ‘keeper Dominic Friel saved in a one-on-one situation.
At the other end, McLaughlin saved well from Collins, who latched onto Conor Gibbons’ probing ball.

Orchard levelled when Peoples wonderfully controlled Eddie Moore’s pass before firing to the roof of the net.
Lare in the first half, Orchard went close to hitting the front, but Friel denied Sweeney, diving to his right to beat away his drive.
As the clock ticked past the hour, Orchard hit the front as McCarron fired home from the penalty spot after Sweeney was upended by Paddy O’Kane.
[adrotate group=”59″]McCarron was just wide soon after and it took another fine intervention from Glencar’s Friel to keep his side in check as he thwarted Moore, who combined well with Sweeney.
Glencar drew level through Grieve after referee Con McLaughlin penalised Paddy McLaughlin for a trip on Gibbons.
[adrotate group=”46″]Both teams pushed hard for a winner, but none was forthcoming as defences and goalkeepers held firm and the leading sides had to be content to share the dividends.
