Northwest Snooker Club had two junior players – Sean Devenney and Ronan Whyte- away at the weekend in Carlow competing in the second U18 and U21 qualifiers for the World Championships to be held in China in July.
On Saturday in the U18 event Ronan got beat 3-2 in the quarter-finals by Noel landers from Cork, but club mate Sean reached the final after some great displays notably beating current U16/18 Irish Champion Ross Bullman from Cork 3-2 in the Semi, but he was beaten 3-0 in a very close final also by Noel.
On Sunday in the U21 event Sean Was beaten in the quarter-final by Stephen Bateman from Kilkenny 3-1, but Ronan reached the Semi-final and with some great match snooker coming from both players, he was unlucky to be beat 3-1 by Bateman.
Both players have another two tournament in April with the winners receiving qualifications to the championships
