NOMINATIONS HAVE OPENED for the 40th Donegal Sports Star Awards.
It’s been another fantastic year for sport in the county so it’s time to get the names of those individuals and teams who have excelled in 2015 onto the nominations list for a special Donegal County Council sponsored awards ceremony, which will take place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Friday, January 29th.
There is expected to be up to 150 entries battling it out for the judges’ nod in over 30 categories. Based on the successes so far this year in a lot of sports the competition for many of the awards is going to make for some fascinating debate when the nominations list is published in early January.
The sporting public will also be speculating on the identities of the teams and individuals who could be in the frame for the 2015 Overall Donegal Sports Star of the Year Award.
The current holder is the Letterkenny athlete Mark English.
Schools have been an integral part of the awards over the 40 years.
The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Councillor Ciaran Brogan, will make the presentations in the primary and secondary schools categories.
As the committee will be selecting the ‘Hall of Fame’ winner no nominations are being sought in this category.
A brief summary only of the relevant sporting achievements will suffice when making a nomination. Pictorial and DVD footage is also required. Nominations can be done online from the nominations page and emailed to info@donegalsportsstarawards.ie or by completing a nomination form which can be downloaded and posted to Paul McDaid, Post Office, Ramelton. Those not using on-line can simply post their nominations to Paul McDaid, Post Office, Ramelton.
Please note that only successes in 2015 are eligible for consideration when deciding on winners in the various categories.
The only exception to this rule is the primary and second schools sections. Here, it is sporting achievements during the academic year 2014/2015 which will be judged.
