THE DONEGAL POOL season is truly back in full swing with the hosting of the second qualifier competition last Saturday in Jameson’s, Drumkeen.
The event had a field of 34 players which ended up in a titanic final between two former county champions, with Dungloe’s Shaun Sharkey overcoming Gareth Kirwan from Letterkenny in a final frame decider.
Sharkey blazed a trail through his matches until overcoming very stiff opposition in his semi final against David Moore, Letterkenny.
Kirwan had to come from behind in a number of matches before seeing off Gweedore’s Donal Curran in the semis.
Indeed, the Rosses men are dominating the early stages of the qualifiers with another Gweedore man, Tony Mulhern, taking the season’s first title against Johnny Greene from Loughanure.
In other news, Ownie’s Bar, Dungloe, are hosting an exhibition night featuring two times World Champion, Jason Twist.
The event takes place on Thursday, 22nd October, with any profits from the night going to the Donegal Pool Association. Also, Shaun Sharkey continues to impress at national level: he currently tops the Premier League which consists of the top players in the national rankings and Shaun also reached the semi-finals of the most recent competition.
The organisers would like to thank Wheatgrass LK for sponsoring Saturday’s event, and also the Allingham Arms Hotel and allsportsstore.com who recently sponsored hoodies to the A and B teams (pictured above).
