Ballyshannon Marlin’s Swimming Club member Mona McSharry has won a bronze medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Glasgow – in an Irish record time – at her first ever senior meeting.
The 19-year-old from Grange, Co Sligo, recorded a time of 29.87 from lane eight in the 50m breaststroke. McSharry came in behind Italian duo of Martina Carraro, who placed second, and winner Benedetta Pilato.
“I don’t know how I made it to get a medal on an outer lane,” she said afterwards.
