Three gymnasts from Citadel gymnastics centre travelled to the National Sports Campus in Dublin on Saturday (27th July) to compete on the National stage.
These three gymnasts; Amy Fox, Leon Hughes and Emmaléi Murphy qualified earlier in the year for different individual apparatus’s. Amy Fox qualified in March for the Level 4 bars final.
While Emmalei and Leon both qualified in May for their finals; Emmalei qualifying for the Level 6 Floor final and Leon qualifying for a total of five men’s finals, floor, vault, parallel bars, rings and pommel (Mushroom).
Amy Fox was up first for her Bar final this morning. After a clean effortless routine, Amy came away with the gold medal, naming her the Over 13 Level 4 Bars National Champion.
It was then Leon Hughes’ turn to compete for Citadel, after many solid clean routines from the young male gymnast he was awarded a national silver medal on Floor, a National silver medal on Vault and a National Bronze medal on Parallel bars.
Emmalei Murphy then took to the national stage competing in the Level 6 Floor event. The standard was extremely high within Emmalei’s category, never the less the young Citadel gymnast pulled out all the stops and competed for a stunning routine placing 6th.
Citadel Gymnastics centre opened its doors on the 5th of November 2018, to see gymnasts competing and taking home National medals from a gymnastics centre only open 8 months is a credit to them and their coaches.
The staff at Citadel could not be more proud of these young gymnasts and what they’ve achieved this weekend.
