Naomh Colmcille will come up against Newton in tomorrow’s All-Ireland JFC quarter-final – Carndonagh man Éanna Newton that is!
Newton, a former Donegal underage player, has been living in Edinburgh since 2015, when he moved over to Scotland to do his Masters.
Newton played with Dunedin Connolly last year as they reached the All-Ireland JFC semi-final, where they lost 1-18 to 2-6 to Rock from County Tyrone, having beaten the Leinster champions Rosenallis in the quarter-final.
Newton played as a half-forward last year. This term, Dunedin overcame Birmingham’s Sean McDermott’s in the All-Britain final.
Newton has featured against Naomh Colmcille regularly at underage and senior level and the Naomh Colmcille players will be well versed with the Carndonagh native from his time in Inishowen.
Dunedin have won 12 of the last 13 Scottish championships and Newton has been involved in the last two of those.
Newton is nursing a quad injury ahead of tomorrow’s game, but is hoping to play through the pain barrier.
