MULROY COLLEGE are into the final of the SFAI Senior B Girls National Cup after defeating St Patrick’s College from Mayo this afternoon.
In the semi-final at Ray McSharry Park in Sligo, Mulroy won 3-0.
Maria Carr’s team were on top from the off and Caoimhe Walsh fired them in front after 48 minutes.
Five minutes later, Catherine Grier shot Mulroy two ahead. With St Patrick’s reeling, Mulroy added a third within two minutes thanks to Kelly Ann Buchannan.
The game started brightly with both teams evenly matched for the first 15 minutes.
Mulroy started to get themselves more into the game when Caoimhe Walsh got onto the end of a loose ball and started to give the defenders something to work for. She got her shot away only for it to go narrowly wide at the post.
Shortly after this Walsh got the ball again striking it first time and stingy the goalkeeper’s hands.
Mulroy were well on top with some great runs made by Michelle McDevitt and some great balls put into the box by Zoe Green.
20 mins gone and St Patricks had a great chance only to be denied by the fast hands of Clare Friel in the Mulroy net.
St Patricks were beginning to find there feet and started to test the Mulroy defence only for Siobhan and Eimear Sweeney to stand tall in the back line.
Half time 0-0
In the secnd half Mulroy came out all guns blazing after a frustrating first half and had a number of great chances before finally breaking the deadlock.
Kerri Sweeney and Catherine Grier were dictating the midfield and st Patricks were finding it tough in the middle of the park.
On 48 mins Caoimhe Walsh got on the end of a good ball and calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net leaving the keeper with no chance: well deserved for Walsh after being denied on a number of occasions.
Mulroy were well on top and we’re awarded a corner after some great pressure from Kellyann Buchanan.
Walsh put in another great ball into the area and it was met by the head of Catherine Grier for 2-0.
Shortly after the ball had being kicked off Mulroy were once again on the attack. Zoe Green made a lovely run up the wing and put a lovely ball into the area where Buchanan created some space for herself and headed the ball into the back of the net.
Three goals in seven minutes, Mulroy were ecstatic!
Mulroy kept the heads cool and composed and finished of the game well on top.
Mulroy had a great team performance however Caoimhe Walsh had an exceptional game with Zoe Green Kerri Sweeney and Catherine Grier all playing well.
