LETTERKENNY ROVERS have been handed the toughest of starts in their bid to reach the same dizzying Intermediate Cup heights of last season.
The draw for the first round of the 2016/17 FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup has seen Eamon McConigley’s Rovers paired with Cockhill Celtic.
Rovers have been handed a home tie in the game, which is set to take place on the weekend ending September 18.
Rovers became the first Donegal team in 20 years to reach the decider last year. They lost 5-0 to Crumlin United in the final at Aviva Stadium, but manager McConigley – who has added the likes of Darragh Black, Christopher Flanagan and Conor Tourish to his panel – has already stated his desire for Intermediate success.
Last season, Rovers defeated Cockhill Celtic, who have been USL champions in each of the last four seasons, 2-1 in the first round.
Fanad United, Bonagee United and Swilly Rovers have been given byes into the second round.
