Ballyshannon Merlin’s Swimming Club Member Mona McSharry was narrowly out of luck in her quest for a second medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships ,when she finished fourth in the 100m Breaststroke final.
After taking bronze in the 50m Breaststroke on Wednesday, the 19-year-old broke the Irish record yesterday to qualify for today’s final in a time of 1:04.36.
In today’s final in Glasgow, McSharry, who went to school at Coláiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon, finished in a time of 1:05.2 to come fourth having led at half-way and onto the 75-metre mark.

Then, McSharry and the Irish team finished up in eighth place at the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle final, alongside Shane Ryan, Jack McMillan and Danielle Hill in a new Irish record time of 1:31.86.
