MONA McSharry seamlessly moved through the 100m Breaststroke heats at the LEN European Aquatics Championships this morning.
McSharry came through her heat in 1:06.97 to advance into tonight’s semi-finals.
McSharry, the Marlin’s Swimming Club star who is bound for the Tokyo Olympics this summer, has been in superb form of late.
Last month she booked her spot at the Olympics when, at the Irish Olympic Team Trials, lowering her Irish record to 1:06.97 – the same time she hit today. At the time, that was a new PB and a national record, but she subsequently dipped to 1:06.29.
Yesterday in Budapest, McSharry was part of a women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team that set a new Irish record.
Alongside Danielle Hill, Victoria Catterson and Erin Riordan, McSharry was on song as they swam 3:44.37.
The Marlin’s Swimming Club star hit the qualifying time with a new PB and national record of 1:06.97 on Tuesday morning.
McSharry, the former World Junior champion and a University of Tennessee student, also smashed the Irish 200m breaststroke record last month, setting a new mark of 2:25.92 and going inches from the Olympics in a second event.
