MOLLIE Gribbin shattered a 40-year old athletics record in America tonight.
Gribbin took the long-standing Finn Valley AC triple jump record, as she leapt to 12.34m at a meet in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Gribbin took second place in the event.
The 12.34m jump beats the previous best of 11.8m set by Sinead McLaughlin at Tullamore in 1981.
Gribbin is returning to outdoor competition for the first time since winning silver in the women’s long jump at the 2019 Irish Senior Championships in Santry.
She competes in the long jump in Raleigh tomorrow.
Recently, she set a new indoor long jump PB of 13.01m while competing in Nebraska.
In 2019, Gribbin underwent corrective surgery after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament, but the indications are that she’s ready to shine again.
