ALL THE GOALS CAME in the second half as Milford United dethroned Brian McCormick Sports Cup holders St Catherine’s to advance into the final.
Milford United 4 St Catherine’s 1
Paddy Peoples, Adam Serrinha, Joey Cullen and Darren McLaughlin bagged the goals as Noel Gillespie’s men, second in the Premier Division standings, booked a spot in the decider.
After a cagey first half, that ended with the deadlock still intact, Milford netted the opening goal of the game five minutes into the second half, when Peoples – who replaced Mark Flood late in the first period – finished at the far post.
It came from Gary Merritt’s deep corner that was steered back across goal by Joey Cullen.
St Catherine’s – who defeated Castlefin Celtic in last year’s final – had barely time to shake their heads clear when doubled their lead within five minutes.
Yet again, Merritt was the provider. From another fine corner kick, Serrinha headed past Antoine O’Hara from close range.
Twenty minutes from time, Milford made it 3-0 with the goal of the game.
Cullen swivvled around his man and, from a position 30 yards from goal, wonderfully curled into the top corner.
Merrtitt notched another assist for the fourth, finished well by McLaughlin from 20 yards.
On 82 minutes, Barry Rose pulled a goal back for the Fishermen, but Milford had long since had their tickets punched for the final.
