*Intermediate Championship Quarter Final Replay*
Burt 2-9 CLG BnaG 0-9
Our Seniors lost their first away game of the league campaign on Saturday day away to Burt in the Division 3 top of the table clash.
A win would have been a huge boost in the quest for promotion but as it stands it is still all in Na Galloglaighs hands. The first half was a tight affair with Cathal Mc Gettigan trading 2 points with Burt to leave it level after the first quarter but the boys began to gradually get on top and went two clear through Kyle Black and Luke Barrett.
Gary Merritt had a good goal chance shortly after this to stretch the lead even further but his effort was well saved. Instead Burt went on to score three unanswered points in the remainder of the half to leave them leading 0-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Gary Merritt got the sides level almost immediately after the restart but 7 minutes later the boys were dealt a hammer blow when Burt snuck in for a goal, and went four ahead with a point moments later. As had been the case in the first half the Na Galloglaigh performance was a mixture of the good and the bad, but the bad mistakes were punished mercilessly, while at the other end the boys were dominant but wasteful of both possession and shooting opportunities.
With 8 minutes to go Pauric Curley had an effort strike the crossbar which would have brought the deficit to just one, and again the clinical Burt went up the pitch to notch another goal of their own to leave the score at full time 2-9 to 0-9.
The boys were guilty of hitting the panic button a little early after the concession of the first goal and lacked the composure needed to take their scores and get them back into the game. But while today is a blow their destiny is in their own hands and need to win now against Naomh Brid next Saturday at home.
This leaves Na Galloglaigh 3 points clear at the top with Burt having a game in hand. Team: Sean Gallagher, Gary Merritt (0-1), Sean Black, Kieran Sheridan, Tj Evesson, Enda McHugh, Jonny Logue, Luke Barrett (0-1), Joey Cullen, Darragh Black (0-1), Christopher Barrett, Pauric Curley, Gavin Grier, Cathal McGettigan (0-5), Kyle Black (0-1). Subs: Barry McNulty fo Sheridan (40m), Anthony Fisher for Logue (52m), Shay Durning, Adam Serrinha, Kieran Mc Laughlin, Paul Grier
