Our U14 Girls won their first ever title at this age group with a comprehensive win over Gaoth Dobhair by 5-5 to 1-5 on Saturday.
The girls were very nervous in the first half and it wasn’t until the last five minutes of the opening period before they began to play like they can to go in 3-2 to 0-3 up at half time.
The second half was a different story. They totally dominated with some brilliant performances from Claudia Ward, Taylor Doherty, and Bronagh Durning. This is a great squad of girls and totally deserved their success. *Minors*
CLG BnaG 2-10 Fanad Gaels 1-9
Our Minors showed great character on Monday night to come back from being 5 points down at half time to win against neighbours Fanad Gaels in a thrilling contest in Moyle Park.
An impressive Fanad side looked the hungrier in the opening exchanges and were lot more clinical than Na Galloglaigh who didn’t register a score until Shane McNamee hit the back of the net after 16 minutes to bring the side level. Points from Kane Barrett and Adam Serrinha followed and it looked like the boys would be going in two points down at the break, but in injury time Fanad scored a screamer of a goal to leave the boys with a lot of work to do in the second half with the scoreline 1-7 to 1-2.
Serrinha and Connor Gormley (2) scored points early in the half either side of Fanad score to narrow the margin somewhat, and on 46 minutes McNamee had an effort come back off the post. Na Galloglaigh were gathering momentum however and further points from Ronan Docherty, Conor Mc Hugh, Luke Trearty and Gavin Grier put the boys into the lead for the first time with 10 minutes remaining.
In a tight and nervy finale Shane McNamee got himself a second goal on 58 minutes to give the boys a foothold in the closing stages, with a large and noisy support urging the boys on. Fanad got a score back on 59 minutes but in injury time Kane Barrett popped over and insurance score to see the lads run out winners by 2-10 to 1-9 in an impressive second half performance.
The boys now advance to the Semi Final, with time, date, venue and opposition to be announced but it has been rumoured it could be this Wednesday. Team: Gavin McFadden, Shay Durning, Kieran Sheridan, Patrick Ferry, Ryan Mcmahon, Ronan Docherty (0-1), Cormac Toland, Luke Trearty (0-1), Connor Gormley (0-2), Odhrán Coll, Adam Serrinha (0-2), Conor McHugh (0-1), Shane McNamee (2-0), Kane Barrett (0-2), Gavin Grier (0-1). Subs: Paul Johnston, Peter Curran, Kyle Macaulay, Dane Dunworth, Shane Mc Bride, Martin Doyle, Hayden Curran, Ryan Spike Flood
