The Club was delighted to learn late last week that Shaun Paul Barrett had been put forward by the Donegal Executive for the position of Minor manager and that has been ratified at County Committee.
This is a brilliant achievement for Shaun Paul and no less than he deserves. He is one if the best qualified coaches in Ulster and has managed several underage Donegal teams in the past, including guiding the U17s to the McGuigan Cup in 2014. Shaun Paul is currently the manager of our Senior team who are sitting top of Division 3 and play Aodh Ruadh in the Quarter Finals of the Intermediate Championship at 8pm in Convoy on Friday. SP has put in countless hours of coaching and is as dedicated and committed a manager as you could get and all at the Club wish him well as Donegal Minor manager.

*Seniors*
CLG BnaG 2-10 Buncrana 0-9
Our Seniors got back to winning ways on Sunday to maintain their position at the top of the table with a win over Buncrana.
It was Buncrana who got off to a flier though and scored 3 unanswered points to leave them 0-3 to no score up after 10 minutes. It was Christopher Barrett who got Na Galloglaighs first score after 12 minutes before Cathal Mc Gettigan scored 2 points to level the game up after 15. The next few scores were tit for tat with McGettigan and Tj Evesson scoring points before a superb team move from our own kick out saw Chippie finish to the back of the net on 27 minutes.
This put the boys 2 points clear and this became 5 points when Jonny Logue got another goal on 29. Another good team move saw Logue clean through and his first effort brought a great save from the Buncrana keeper but Jonny reacted quickest to score the rebound. A McGettigan free with the last kick of the half put the boys in a commanding 6 point lead at half time, 2-6 to 0-6.
The second half was a low scoring affair with Buncrana scoring first after 41 minutes and scored again on 44. Na Galloglaigh responded with 2 of their own from Gavin Grier and Barrett to maintain the 6 point lead. The defence was on top for much of the second half and seen out the game relatively comfortably, although Sean Gallagher was called upon to make 2 superb saves in the last few minutes.
As the game came to a close some security points were scored by Darragh Black and Grier again to leave the full time score 2-10 to 0-9. Next up for the boys is a Intermediate Championship Quarter Final clash with Aodh Ruadh on Friday night under the lights in Convoy, 8pm throw in.
With Aodh Ruadh losing at home to Letterkenny Gaels the boys will be hoping the fixture goes to form and they advance to the Semi Final. All support greatly appreciated. Team: Sean Gallagher. Kieran Sheridan, Sean Black, Gavin Grier (0-2), TJ Evesson (0-1), Gary Merritt, Enda McHugh, Jonny Logue (1-0), Joey Cullen, Pauric Curley, Christopher Barrett (1-2), Kieran Mc Laughlin, Kyle Black, Cathal McGettigan (0-4), Paddy Peoples. Subs: Darragh Black (0-1) for McLaughlin (40m), Adam Serrinha for McHugh (54m), Barry McNulty, Shay Durning, Paul Grier.
*Reserves*
CLG BnaG 3-7 Buncrana 1-16
Na Galloglaigh went down to Buncrana in the Reserve match which sees Buncrana extend their winning streak to 10 games. Once again a poor first half left them with too much to do in the second period.
Nevertheless the second half was a greatly improved display.Playing against a breeze the boys struggled to get the ball up the pitch and didn’t win enough breaking ball in the middle third. Buncrana were ruthless to leave the half time score 0-2 to 0-12.
The second half was much much better from Na Galloglaighs point of view and when a long range effort from Paul Fisher ended up in the back of the net the boys started to get a bit of belief, especially when Dylan Hegarty added a second goal moments later.
Buncrana responded to this with a goal of their own to put 7 between the sides again, much to the disappointed of Na Galloglaighs defence as they felt there was a throw ball in the build up. At the other end Dylan Hegarty was denied a strong penalty shout which would have come in handy as gaffer Ciaran McHugh put just 3 between the sides with a goal on 57 minutes.
In the end Buncrana ran out with a 3 point win, and on the balance of play deserved the victory, although Na Galloglaigh will feel like they nearly could have nicked it. No game for the Reserves next week due to the Intermediate Championship.
Team: Gavin McFadden, Shay Durning, Barry McNulty, Emmet Conaghan, Cormac Friel, Paul Grier, Connor Jason Meakin, Paul Sweeney, Anthony Fisher, Paddy Mc Carron, Luke Trearty (0-1), Paul Fisher (1-4), Dean Burgess, Dylan Hegarty (1-2), Brandon Toye. Subs: Tony McGettigan for Conaghan (HT), Hugh Mc Menamin for Toye (HT), Caolan Bolton for Meakin (HT), Ciaran McHugh (1-0) for McCarron (HT), Patrick Ferry for Sweeney (45m)
*Minor Championship Semi Final*
CLG BnaG 2-8 Bundoran 2-6
Na Galloglaigh have sealed their place in the Minor Championship final after a thrilling win over Bundoran in Killygordon last Wednesday night.
The opening period was a tight and cagey affair with Bundoran slightly on top but both teams struggling to make scoring chances. It was Bundoran who got the first score of the match when their centre half forward snuck in for goal to stick the ball past Gavin McFadden on 11 minutes. Gavin Grier got Na Galloglaighs first point after 13 minutes but some poor passing and choice selections made scoring chances hard to come by.
It was in the last 15 minutes of the half with the score at 0-1 to 1-1 before the boys started to come to life. Their strong direct running at the heart of the Bundoran defence cut them open on numerous occasions and it was one such run from Adam Serrinha which saw Na Galloglaigh get their opening goal when he smashed home on 19th minutes.
Further points from Luke Trearty, Shane McNamee and Serrinha in the last few minutes left the boys in a strong position leading 1-4 to 1-1. The second half was much the same with Bundoran being on top again in the opening exchanges, and they scored 1-1 in the first 5 minutes to put them back in the lead. Nevertheless Na Galloglaigh kept making numerous goal chances when they ran straight at Bundoran and had a gilt edged chance to go back into the lead on 38 minutes.
A great run from McNamee saw himself and Martin Doyle clean through and bearing down on goal, but McNamees unselfish pass was just too high for Doyle. Bundoran then went up the pitch to go 2 points clear with 15 minutes left.
Na Galloglaigh never gave up and created more goal chances with Grier and Kane Barrett shooting narrowly wide. Grier got a point with 11 minutes left to narrow the margin to the minimum, before seconds later Connor Gormley leveled the game up. Bundoran responded with another point on 51 before a minute later Gormley, effectively playing on one leg after a very heavy knock in the first half, finished to the back of the net to leave the score 2-6 to 2-4 with 8 minutes left.
Substitute Kane Barrett then stepped up to knock over a point before Gormley scored again on 55 to put 4 between the sides. Bundoran knocked over a free on 57 to make for a nervy finish with a goal in it. Deep in injury time a sweeping Bundoran move saw them bearing down on goal before Cormac Toland, who had been superb all game at corner back, made a match saving tackle just outside the box. Bundoran tapped over the free but there wasn’t much time left afterwards as the referee blew the final whistle to see Na Galloglaigh win 2-8 to 2-6.
It was a deserved victory for the boys who will have badly wanted to win this game tonight after losing to Bundoran in the league final. Na Galloglaigh will now take on Kilcar in the final as they defeated Cloughaneely 1-10 to 0-7 in the other semi final, venue an date to be announced.
Team: Gavin McFadden, Patrick Ferry, Kieran Sheridan, Odhrán Coll, Ryan Mcmahon, Ronan Docherty, Cormac Toland, Luke Trearty (0-1), Connor Gormley (1-2), Conor Mc Hugh, Adam Serrinha (1-1), Ryan Spike Flood, Gavin Grier (0-2), Martin Doyle, Shane McNamee (0-1). Subs: Kane Barrett (0-1) for Doyle (40m), Ryan Toye for Flood (40m), Peter Curran, Hayden Curran, Jamie-Lee Blaney, Paddy Mc Carron
*U16 Championship*
Buncrana 4-16 CLG BnaG 0-6
With 3 teams on 4 points a threeway playoff was needed to see who advances past the U16 Division 1 group stages. Unfortunately Na Galloglaigh were defeated in Buncrana last night in the first of these playoff games leaving them with a must win game now against MacCumhaills, provisionally fixed for this Friday evening.
The Club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Ronan Docherty who broke his collarbone during last nights game. Ronan has been a key man for the U16s and Minors this season and will surely be a huge loss to the Minors for their Final v Kilcar on Saturday week. Hopefully he will be back better and stronger than ever for the Minors and Reserves next year.
