MICHAEL DUFFY HAS been called into the Northern Ireland squad for Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan in Belfast.
Duffy has been given the call by manager Michael O’Neill after the withdrawals of Jamie Ward and Stuart Dallas and joined up with the squad last night.
Duffy, who is on loan at Dundee from Celtic, has been drafted in along with Liam Boyce for the Group C game against Azerbaijan, with Northern Ireland having a chance to leapfrog their opponents with a win.
It is the second senior call-up for Duffy, who had to pull out of the panel for September’s game against Czech Republic in Prague because of a hip injury.
Duffy’s family hail from St Johnston and the 22-year-old played at youth level with Kildrum Tigers before he joined Derry City.
