ROMA MCLAUGHLIN, TYLER TOLAND and their respective Republic of Ireland teams learned of their opponents for the Elite Round qualifiers next year.
Greencastle’s McLaughlin (pictured above) plays for the Irish Under-19s while St Johnston’s Toland is with the Under-17s. Both sides topped their recent qualifying groups and head into the Elite Rounds brimming with confidence.
They will have home advantage as they prepare to host Finland, Scotland and Ukraine in April 2017. The venue and fixture details will be announced in due course.
Next summer’s Under-19 European Championships will be staged by Northern Ireland.
Peamound United midfielder McLaughlin and Ireland’s Under-19 stormed to a 2-0 win over Wales, a 10-0 romp against Macedonia and a 2-0 victory in their last game against Italy.
Toland, a midfielder with Maiden City who is also on the Irish Under-16 squad, aided the Dave Bell-managed Under-17s to wins over Faroe Islands (6-0), Belarus (2-0) and Iceland (4-1) in Cork and they, too, topped their group.
The Under-17s will take on Hungary, Serbia and Scotland in Serbia next March. The Under-17 finals will be held in the Czech Republic.
The six Elite Round group winners plus the the runner-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their group will qualify for the finals.
