Erin ‘Fildara’ McLaughlin netted the winner this morning as the Republic of Ireland U15 Schools team regained the Bob Docherty Cup.
A 2-1 win over England saw the Girls in Green take the prize.
Carndonagh Community School’s McLaughlin and Moville Community College’s Kerry Brown also featured, coming on as a second half replacement.
Lydia Hudson broke the deadlock for a 29th minute opener for England, but Ireland hit back.
McLaughlin, who came on as a substitute at half-time, went close to a leveller, as did Jessie Stapleton.
A brilliant goal from Muireann Devaney on 44 minutes drew Ireland level and set up a grandstand finish.
The winner arrived in the 54th minute when McLaughlin headed to the net after being picked out by a Shauna Brennan cross.
McLaughlin and Brown scored a brace each yesterday for Richard Berkeley’s Republic of Ireland Schools select as they put five past Northern Ireland ‘B’ at Ulster University, Jordanstown.
Muckross College Park graduate Abbie Clarke also got in on the action when she converted in superb fashion just before the interval.
The Republic were gifted the perfect start after just two minutes of play when the lively McLaughlin pounced on a loose clearance to slot home from an Abbie Clarke corner.
Donnybrook dynamo Abbie Clarke sent a looping ball into the six yard line which surprisingly found itself in the back of the net, three minutes from the interval to double the visitors lead.
Brown then made it three nil five minutes into the restart when she converted a sublime effort on her right peg following a wonderful through ball.
Two minutes later, McLaughlin netted her second and the Republic of Ireland’s fourth with a brilliant solo effort before Brown bagged her very own brace fifteen minutes from time.
