BRETT McGinty and the Northern Ireland boxing squad are en route to Australia for a 13-day training camp ahead of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games next month in Samoa.
The 16-year-old from St Johnston, a boxer with the Oakleaf ABC in Derry, qualifies for the Games as he was born in Derry.
McGinty (pictured above with his team-mates and coaches alongside Hector Ó hEochagáin at Heathrow Airport this morning) is part of a five-man team that takes part with Stephen McKenna (Old School), James McGivern (St George’s), Tiernan Bradley (Omagh) and Aidan Walsh (Holy Family) part of the squad under the direction of John Conlan and Damien Kennedy.
The 2015 Youth Commonwealth Games begin on the Pacific island on September 5th. 107 gold medals will be up for grabs in nine sports at the tournament.
Donegal Sport Hub caught up with McGinty at the weekend before his departure.
