A BRACE of goals by Niall McGinley in the second half saw Finn Harps Under-17s defeat Derry City at Finn Park.
Finn Harps 2 Derry City 1
McGinley’s double, one a replica of the other, continues the good form of Declan Boyle’s Harps, who are now unbeaten in five outings.
Derry took the lead midway through the first half when Ramelton native Conor Gormley broke free through the middle and fired to the top corrner.
With Ryan Cunningham coming into the game, Harps upped their tempo, but it took good saves from Jamie Bell to keep Derry’s Jordan Ryan at bay.
Sean McBride hit the crossbar and with Gormley and Mark Doherty having a grip, Derry seemed the more likely.
At the outset of the second half, McBride and Aaron McColgan called Bell into action before Harps came to life again.
On 53 minutes, Harps drew level when Corrie Lee Bogan’s free kick was headed home by McGinley past Tiernan Hargan, the City goalkeeper.
Ryan Finn, James Carolan and Bogan were having the upper hand and Harps secured the win when McGinley again headed a Bogan free to the City net.
With Shane Blaney immense at centre-back, Harps held on to win a pulsating derby.
