Jason McGee will have a scan on an injured shoulder tomorrow and faces missing a crucial spell on the sidelines.
The Cloughaneely man had to come off during last night’s Allianz League win over Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park after coming on the end of a heavy knock to the shoulder.
McGee initially played on, but was clearly in distress and a second hit left him unable to continue.
A member of the county minor squad last year, McGee has come into his own having been drafted into Rory Gallagher’s senior panel.
His performances have been one of the highlights of the League so far.
However, the big midfielder looks set to miss key games for the Donegal senior and under-21 sides.
Donegal Under-21 manager Declan Bonner says McGee is expected to be absent for ‘a minimum of three weeks’.
It means he is now highly unlikely to be available for Wednesday week’s Ulster Under-21 clash against Tyrone.
