DONEGAL Women’s League U19’s replicated the U17’s scoring line from Saturday in a very entertaining game in Leckview against Bray Wanderers in extremely wet and windy conditions on Sunday.
Donegal Women’s League 7 0 Bray Wanderers
Ciara McGarvey scored four for Donegal as they claimed a big home win.
McGarvey opened the scoring in the 14th minute after she was upended in the edge of the box by Zoe Kelly.
Donegal started to dominate the middle with Danielle Hynd and Aisling Irwin combining to set up McGarvey, who evaded the defender’s challenge to get a thunderous strike off from 25 yards, with the perfect shot sailing in just under the crossbar.
Just on the stroke of half time Ciara got her hat trick from a tap in after Holly’s Canning’s strike hit the post.
As Donegal continue to exploit the spaces, McGarvey found herself in the box to make it four after fine combination play by Danielle Hynd and Mollie Page
The battle of game was between Alannah Kee and Abbie Duddy with Kee marshalling well Duddy got frustrated with Alannah’s consistent pressure.
With McGarvey being removed, her replacement Emma Doherty was as much of a thorn in the Bray side and after two minutes of being on pitch Doherty was taken down in box. Up stepped Eimear Sweeney to score the penalty.
Louise Gallanagh worked her way into the box for her shot to be pared by the Bray keeper however her twin Aoife converted the rebound.
After a great block at the edge of the Donegal box by Catherine Grier, she got her head put to see the advancing run of Emma Doherty, who skipped past the defender, before rounding the keeper to calmly place the ball into the bottom corner.
This concluded the scoring with Donegal finishing third in group with three wins, two draws and one defeat.
They now wait confirmation from FAI to see if they qualify for the best third place to qualify in the top five section to compete for the league along with Galway Utd, Peamound, DLR Waves and Cork City or will be placed with the other seven teams to compete for the shield.
