Letterkenny rally driver Marty Gallagher is set to tackle the Junior British Rally Championship this year.
After competing in some Prestone MSA British Rally Championship in the BRC4 category last year, Gallagher and co-driver Dean O’Sullivan will take the Campsie Karting-backed Pugeot 208 to the Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally on the 17/18 March, the opening round of the 2017 Prestone MSA British Rally Championship.
Gallagher and O’Sullivan are set to compete in the Galway International Rally this weekend to start their year.
In 2016, the pair finished 27th position overall in the Rallye Waldviertel in Austria and they scored two BRC4 wins – at the Circuit of Ireland and at Rally Isle of Man.
The pair were 18th overall in Rally Isle of Man, while they were second in their class in both the British and Irish Championships.

The open tyre formula and lucrative championship prize of the Junior BRC was a natural draw for the 20-year-old who hopes to mix it with the best in Britain’s premier rallying series
“The Junior BRC was something we were considering when we did BRC4 last year,” Gallagher said.
“We have really got to grips with the Peugeot and feel really comfortable in the car compared to the Fiesta R2 where we really had to overdrive to get any performance out of it.
“The main thing for me is to get used to the gravel and we are doing the first round of the Scottish Championship to help learn further ahead of the Border Counties. I would love to get some wins under the belt and be fighting at the top – hopefully we will be in the hunt at the end of the year.”
